Omnipotence – Psalm 139:13–16

What is the greatest part of God’s creation?

Only God is all-powerful. Everything about the creation of the universe reveals that God is all-powerful. However, His final act of creation most wonderfully reveals His unbelievable power. After God had spoken the universe into existence, He then created man—the most amazing part of all of the Creation.

Every time a baby is conceived and born it is a reminder of God’s omnipotence. The Psalmist wrote, “For thou hast possessed my reins [formed my inward parts]; thou hast covered me in my mother’s womb. I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well” (vv. 13, 14).

Every human being begins as a microscopic cell and begins to grow. “I was made in secret, and curiously [skillfully] wrought in the lowest parts of the earth” (v. 15). Every stage of the development of the baby is miraculous. “Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect [unformed]; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them” (v. 16).

There is nothing more awe inspiring than to witness the birth of a new baby and then be able to see him begin to grow. God has plans for that little person. Imagine something that begins as a microscopic cell and eventually becomes a person that has many of the attributes of God. He will become a person that will have feelings; that can love and be loved; that can experience a relationship with God and can praise Him. Only an all-powerful God could have designed such an unbelievable creation.

The most exciting evidences of God’s power in life are not the great oceans, the Grand Canyon, or beautiful sunsets. These are all beautiful and exciting, but the greatest thing you will ever see is a human being. God had a specific purpose when He created Adam in His own image. It is no wonder the Lord commands His people to love one another!
