My God – Psalm 63:1–5

What do you want more than anything else?

Ask someone who has been wandering in the desert without water for days what he wants more than anything else in the world, and he will immediately cry out, “Water!” He will not be picky about what kind of water, but will accept whatever is offered to him.

Some people try to negotiate with God before they will accept or trust Him. He just wants you to seek Him on His terms. He knows what is best for you. You will never regret trusting Him completely.

Just as I am, without one plea,
But that thy blood was shed for me,
And that Thou bidd’st me come to Thee,
O Lamb of God, I come! I come!

King David not only accepted God, but he eagerly sought after Him. “O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is” (v. 1).

He also wrote, “Because thy lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise thee . . . My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness; and my mouth shall praise thee with joyful lips” (vv. 3, 5).

If you understand what David was expressing, you will understand why he was called a “man after God’s own heart.” Even though he had some terrible sins in his life, He found total satisfaction in the relationship he had with God. It may be that his complete satisfaction was the result of God’s forgiveness of all his sins. Do you have this kind of relationship with God? Do you want this more than anything else? It is available to you for the asking!
