A Delightful God – Psalm 1:2

Where is your delight?
God created you and me to enjoy a happy life. He intended for us to continually experience happiness through an intimate relationship with Him. “Happy is that people, whose God is the LORD” (Psalm 144:15).
He has done His part, and now He wants us to do our part. A simple way to paraphrase Psalm 1:1, 2 would be, “How happy are those people who delight in the Lord!” How much of the time do you delight in Him?
Delighting in the Lord is not the result of intellectually learning about Him. Instead, it is the result of a continual, growing relationship with Him. What kind of relationship do you intend to have with Him this year? You and I have the opportunity to make this decision for ourselves.
The apostle Paul said, “That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death” (Philippians 3:10). No doubt, he would encourage you and me to make this same decision.
Carefully reread this verse and remember that the Lord desires a relationship with each of us. The right kinds of relationships become stronger through difficulties.
Neither you nor I can imagine what will happen in our lives during the coming year, but we can be confident that as we delight in the Lord our relationship with Him will become stronger and stronger. How happy are those people who delight in the Lord!
“But his delight is in the law of the LORD” (v. 2).
