Daily Encouragements

Happiness Is . . . – Psalm 1:1

Is it possible to always be happy?
Are you happy, but not as happy as you want to be? Are you “just a little bit discouraged?” How can we be happy while we are surrounded by all kinds of discouragements and unhappy people?
God created us to enjoy a happy life, and He will not allow circumstances to make it impossible for us to be happy. He has “given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness” (II Peter 1:3). The Lord also said that He came that we might have life and that we might have it more abundantly (John 10:10). He must have made some provision for us to be genuinely happy, in spite of circumstances.
God has a lot of instructions about being happy. The word “blessed” is used many times in the Bible. A simple meaning for blessed is “How happy!” Psalm 1:1 states the happy person is the one who does not listen to the advice of ungodly people.
Remember the above statement the next time you are faced with a discouraging situation. Where do you seek advice? Do you seek it in the Bible or from godly people who live according to His Word? Be very careful, and do not seek advice from those who do not live according to God’s Word. They may appear to be wise and good, but if their actions do not agree with His Word, you will only be happy if you choose not to listen to their advice.
Real happiness is not dependant upon the circumstances surrounding us. It is dependant upon the relationship we have with the Lord. Therefore we can safely say, “How happy is the person who has the right relationship with the Lord and listens to His advice.”
