The Revelation of Jesus Christ – Revelation 1:1–3

What has God revealed about Jesus to you?

There were many prophecies about Jesus throughout the Old Testament. However, these prophecies began to become reality in Bethlehem when Jesus was born.

All over the world people have just celebrated Christmas, even though many of them did not understand the real meaning of Christmas. The origin of Christmas is the time when “the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth” (John 1:14).

A major portion of the New Testament was written to reveal God’s purpose in sending His Son to the earth. Finally, the New Testament closes with the book of Revelation. This book is “the Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John” (v. 1).

God sent an angel to arrange for the coming of the Lord (to Mary and Joseph) and to announce His birth (to the shepherds). God also sent an angel to reveal more about His overall purpose in the world. “Who bare record of the word of God, and of the testimony of Jesus Christ, and of all things that he saw” (v. 2).

God loves the people in the world so much that He has chosen to reveal His desire for everyone to trust in the Lord Jesus Christ, and He wants everyone to believe that His death on the cross paid for the forgiveness of their sins. God’s final revelation about His plans for the people of the world is recorded in the book of Revelation. He specifically promised, Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand (v. 3).
