ABCs of Christmas (O) – Philippians 2:8

How are you being obedient to God’s will for you?

The “O” of Christmas is Obedient. There would not be a Christmas story if several people had not been obedient.
An angel appeared to Mary and told her that she was going to have a son. She did not understand how this could happen, but she answered obediently, “Be it unto me according to thy word” (Luke 1:38). Neither did Joseph understand, but after an angel appeared, he was obedient and “did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife” (Matthew 1:24).

The Wise Men went to worship the newborn King, but they were obedient to God, “being warned of God in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way” (Matthew 2:12).

Obedience was a vital part of everything that Jesus did during His lifetime on the earth. Finally, He illustrated the ultimate act of obedience. “And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross” (Philippians 2:8).

Jesus was “obedient unto death” so that you and people all over the world would have the opportunity to be obedient to God through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, who gave His life for all who will believe.
“Now to Him that is of power to stablish you according to my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ, . . . But now is made manifest, and by the scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, made known to all nations  for the obedience of faith” (Romans 16:25, 26)
Obedience is a vital word for this time of the year. It is very important to be obedient to the Lord during this Christmas season and tell others about His love for them.
