ABCs of Christmas (N) – Luke 2:10, 11

What good news have you heard lately?

The “N” of Christmas is News—actually it is Good News. It has been said that “No news is good news.” This may be true at some times, but more often it is not true. The time of waiting for news about something that has been expected for a long time can be very difficult.

After Adam and Eve sinned in the Garden of Eden and were condemned, God promised to send a Savior to redeem them. At least 4,000 years passed, and many people gave up on this promise. Finally, God sent a messenger to let the world know that the promise of the coming of the Savior was fulfilled. “Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings [news] of great joy . . . . For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord” (Luke 2:10, 11).

This news was especially good because the angel also said it was news “which shall be to all people” (Luke 2:10). God wants every person who has ever been born in the entire world to hear this good news. “The Lord is . . . not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance” (II Peter 3:9).

The gospel is the good news that God wants every man, woman, boy, and girl to hear. The last words that Jesus spoke before He ascended back into heaven were, “Ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth” (Acts 1:8).

If you want to enjoy a Merry Christmas, give some gifts or do some things that will enable others to hear the good news of the Gospel. Help make it possible for the angels in heaven to hear good news about people becoming believers in Jesus Christ as their Savior.

Pray that you will hear some good news during this holiday season such as Paul wrote about: “Timotheus came from you unto us, and brought us good tidings [news] of your faith and charity” (I Thessalonians 3:6).
