ABCs of Christmas (K) – Luke 2:19

How patient are you?

The “K” of Christmas is Keep. This word means to hold, guide, or preserve. This requires both patience and perseverance.

You may have read a children’s book in which a child could not wait until Christmas. No matter how long it is until Christmas, they continue to ask, “How many days until Christmas?” You may sometimes feel impatient and think God is never going to fulfill His promises to you. Just learn to trust Him.

It was approximately 4,000 years from the time God first promised to send a Savior to the world until He fulfilled it. When the time finally arrived for the promise to be fulfilled, it did not happen in a way that people would have planned it.

God told Mary (who was a virgin) that she would have a child and that He would be the Savior. When it was time, an angel told the shepherds that the Savior had been born. They went to see Him. “And all they that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds” (Luke 2:18).

“But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart” (Luke 2:19). Imagine the thoughts that were going through her mind. She may not have been able to comprehend all that was happening, but she continued to trust that God was fulfilling His plan.

As Jesus began His ministry, He said, “If a man love me, he will keep my words” (John 14:23). Are you keeping His Word in your heart as a valued possession?

Keep the Lord in your heart, and make this a very special Christmas season “building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost, Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life” (Jude 20, 21).
